Building off momentum from a contentious 5-4 victory the previous weekend at Colby, the Wesleyan women’s tennis team traveled to Babson College on Tuesday, April 10, in hopes of stringing together a second road win in a row.  Just as she did at Colby, co-captain Sarah Miller ’12 won both at #2 singles and #1 doubles, when she teamed up with Grace Smith ’14. Miller smoothly triumphed in her singles matchup, 6-2, 6-2. At #1 singles, Smith secured a three-set victory by a score of 7-5, 4-6, (10-3) to give her two victories on the day as well.
Other victorious Cardinals in singles matches were Kiley Robbins ’14, Madison Hartley ’15, and Lauren Jacobs ’15, who were slated in at #4, #5, and #6, respectively. Robbins pulled off a three-set victory in dramatic fashion by winning 7-6, 3-6, (10-7).  Hartley and Jacobs both took down their opponents in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, and 6-3, 7-5, respectively. Hartley and Jacobs teamed up at #3 doubles for a convincing 8-4 win, which rounded out the Wesleyan victories, and joined Miller and Smith as Cardinals who doubled up in the win category for the match.
The victory brings the squad’s record to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the spring, while the non-conference match left its NESCAC record untouched at 1-3. The Cardinals will look to continue their success away from home by taking on Hamilton in a NESCAC road matchup on Sunday, April 15. Wes has five matches remaining before the NESCAC Tournament at Williams in early May, four of which are in-conference clashes. The remaining non-conference match slates Wes against Smith College on April 21, in the only home contest left on the schedule.
