The men’s and women’s crew teams returned to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday for the final dual race of the season. Both teams fell to Trinity in varsity eight action; the Cardinal men were also edged by the University of Rhode Island, while the women trounced Connecticut College by over 40 seconds.

The women’s varsity eight boat of Becky Gillig ’12, Claire Tradewell ’11, Becca Schofield ’11, Greer Dent ’12, Catie Steidl ’11, Emilie Kimball ’11, Julia Mulhern ’12, Christina Ermilio ’13, and coxswain Sami Pop ’11 covered the 2,000-meter Lake Quinsigamond course in 6:55.9, just behind third-ranked Trinity (6:51.7) but well ahead of Conn. College (7:38.8). The 4.2-second differential marked the Cardinals’ best showing against Trinity since its last win over the Bantams in 2002. The Cardinals’ second varsity eight boat clocked in 7:36.2, well behind Trinity (7:02.4). Wesleyan’s novice eight boat covered the course in 7:32.6, behind Trinity (7:12.0), Holy Cross (7:19.5), and Conn. College (7:29.7).

The men’s varsity eight crew of Sam Hoefle ’13, Parker Cook ’10, Elliott Skopin ’11, Terrence Word ’11, Bryce Hollingsworth ’13, Spencer Hattendorf ’12, Gilder Keeler ’11, Trevor Michelson ’13, and coxswain Rosemary Ostfeld ’10 clocked in 6:04.1, behind top-ranked Trinity (5:56.6) and URI (6:01.4). Wesleyan’s second varsity heavyweight eight boat placed third with a time of 6:43.8, behind the Trinity “A” (6:01.8) and “B” (6:22.3) boats.

Both teams will return to Worcester this Saturday for the New England Rowing Championships.
