The San Francisco Examiner reports that MGMT (you may have heard of them…) have revealed the title of their forthcoming album: Congratulations. The Wes alums’ follow-up to 2007’s Oracular Spectacular lacks a release date, but will reportedly arrive early next year on Columbia Records. Not much else is known about the forthcoming LP, other than that it’s being produced by Spacemen 3’s Sonic Boom. Fans shouldn’t necessarily expect more of the group’s familiar body-painted quirkiness, however: singer/guitarist Andrew VanWyngarden says that the new album’s title track is “pretty dark.” MGMT’s rise to fame may have taken its toll on the musicians: VanWyngarden calls the new music a reaction to “all the craziness that’s been going on since our last album took off.”
