The field hockey team earned its first win of the year on Wednesday night, rebounding from a crushing overtime loss to Colby on Saturday to defeat Wellesley 3-1 on Smith Field. Taryn Murray ’13 netted her first career goal, and Alexa David ’10 and Morgan McCauley ’12 recorded their first tallies of the season.

David gave Wesleyan the lead just 39 seconds into the game, as she took a pass from Ashley McLaren ’13 in the middle of the scoring circle and fired it into the back of the cage. The margin stood up for most of the period, until Wellesley netted the equalizer with 2:40 left in the half.

McCauley gave the Cardinals back the lead 4:01 into the second half, as she scored off a pass from Lila Creighton ’11. Murray provided the final margin when she fired a pass from McCauley into the right side of the net.

Tori Redding ’13 made three saves for Wesleyan, as the Cardinals outshot Wellesley 24-6. 22 of the Cardinals’ 24 shots were on net.

Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday with a noon home game against NESCAC rival Tufts.
