Amherst men’s soccer, ranked first in New England and second nationally, improved to 3-0-0 with a 2-1 midweek win against Bridgewater State. The Lord Jeffs had defeated Tufts 4-0 on Saturday to improve to 8-0-1 in its last nine games against NESCAC foes. Both of Amherst’s goals against Bridgewater State came in a 50-second span.

Bates women’s soccer goalkeeper Annie Burns ’12 made seven saves in a scoreless tie against Babson on Saturday for her second career shutout. Burns is averaging 10.0 saves per game, leading the NESCAC in that category, with an .857 save percentage and 1.55 goals-against average for the 1-1-1 Bobcats.

Bowdoin sophomore forward Eddie Jones was named NESCAC Player of the Week after racking up eight points in a 3-0 week for the Polar Bears. Jones had two assists in a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine and a pair of goals in a 4-0 win over Bates. He ended the week with a goal in a 2-0 Polar Bear victory at St. Joseph’s.

Colby field hockey forward Heather Quadir ’11 scored in overtime to lead the Mules over Wesleyan on Smith Field last Saturday. Quadir also had an assist in Colby’s 3-2 victory. She now has two goals and three assists in the Mules’ two NESCAC contests.

Conn. College fitness center director William Wuyke, who competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics, will be inducted in the Venezuela Athletic Federation Hall of Fame during a ceremony Oct. 9-10 in Caracas. Wuyke served as Venezuela’s representative for the World Olympian’s Organization (WOA) at the 2008 Beijing games.

Hamilton senior cross-country runner Peter Kosgei ran the 6-kilometer course at the Oneonta State Airfield Invitational in a record time of 18:01, taking individual honors at the race. As a team, Hamilton finished tied for third among five teams with 72 points.

Middlebury women’s soccer forward Amy Schlueter ’13 was named NESCAC Player of the Week after scoring three goals during a 2-0-0 week for the undefeated Panthers. Schlueter netted her first career goal in a 5-0 win over Rensselaer on Wednesday and had both Panther tallies in a 2-1 double-overtime victory at Trinity on Saturday.

Trinity junior field hockey forward Christy Bradley scored five goals and assisted on another during a 3-0 week for the Bantams. Bradley combined for four goals and an assist in a pair of 5-1 wins, at Westfield State on Tuesday and at Wellesley on Thursday. Bradley also scored one of two goals as Trinity snapped a 13-game losing streak to Middlebury with a 2-0 win in Hartford.

Tufts volleyball improved to 6-1 overall with a pair of wins over Wesleyan and Conn. College and a 3-0 victory at Gordon. Junior outside hitter Caitlin Updike averaged 3.3 kills and 2.0 digs per set during the Jumbos’ 3-0 week, racking up 24 kills and 14 digs during the Jumbos’ opening NESCAC weekend.

Williams women’s soccer, ranked third nationally and first in New England, improved to 6-0-0 with four straight shutouts. The Ephs defeated Springfield 4-0 and Conn. College 5-0 last week, then opened this week with a 6-0 win against Western Connecticut Tuesday and a 3-0 triumph against Plattsburgh State Wednesday. Williams has outscored its opponents 27-1 so far this season.
