The men’s tennis team improved to 3-0 on the year with a 7-2 victory at Union on Saturday, its second straight victory over the Dutchmen in the teams’ second meeting since the Great Depression. The Cardinals will have a brief hiatus from team play before their next match against Babson on Oct. 8.

The Cardinals soared to victory on the backs of their five freshmen, as they did in their last two matches,. Jeff Legunn ’13 won every game in both his No. 1 singles victory (6-0, 6-0) and in his win at No. 1 doubles with Ravy Uong ’13 (8-0). Uong earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and Don Kleckner ’13 had another three-set win at No. 4, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. John Parsons ’13 took his match at No. 2 in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), and Michael Glen ’13 did the same at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3). Garrett Blank ’11 suffered a hard-fought loss at No. 5 by scores of 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

Although not as dominant as Legunn and Uong, Kleckner and Parsons rolled to an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, Robert Troyer ’12 and Brian McDermott ’12 suffered an 8-5 defeat.

Next on the Cardinals’ schedule are the three-day ITA Regional Championships, an annual individual tournament that will be held at Williams beginning this Friday.
