The men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 with a 5-4 victory at Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon. Once again, the Cardinals’ freshmen led the way, collectively winning all five team points in the match. Wesleyan has now won four of its last five matches against the Bears.

Jeff Legunn ’13 won the clincher in dramatic fashion, recovering from an early deficit to take his No. 1 singles match, which was finished indoors due to darkness, in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Legunn and Ravy Uong ’13 also teamed up for a 9-8 victory at No. 1 doubles, with Uong contributing a 6-4, 6-1 win of his own at No. 3 singles. Legunn and Uong provided the only doubles win for Wesleyan on the day, as Don Kleckner ’13 and John Parsons ’13 fell 9-7 at No. 2, while Garrett Blank ’11 and Matt Schaff ’11 suffered an 8-5 loss at No. 3.

Kleckner won his match at No. 4 singles without dropping a game, while Parsons fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Michael Glen ’13 took his No. 6 match 6-2, 6-0, while Robert Troyer ’12 suffered a straight-sets loss at No. 5 by the same score.

Wesleyan will look for its first 3-0 start since 2005-06 on Saturday as the team travels to Union College. Wesleyan earned an 8-1 victory over the Dutchmen last fall in the teams’ first meeting since 1933.
